When you start the process to get SSDI disability, you will be amazed at how much information Social Security wants. It's not just your medical conditions, your ability to work, or even your general health that they will investigate. They will literally want to know about every aspect of your day-to-day life, including hobbies, how you spend your spare time, trips you take, how often you leave your house, how often you talk to family members on the phone....on and on....

Social Security wants a total picture of how you spend you days. Their definition of "disability" is very strict and so they check out every part and parcel of your life.

Social Security will question vacations or trips you have recently taken, who prepares your meals, how much time you spend on Facebook or the Internet, and how well you get along with authority figures. And much, much more.

It's easy to think those details are trivial or non-important. But approval or denial may depend on the "total picture" you give Social Security of your situation.

Much of this detailed information is gathered in a form called "Disability Report - Adult." Social Security is looking for consistency. They want a consistent picture of how limited you are in all your activities of daily living (ADLs).

  • How often do you need to change positions when sitting?

  • Do you have trouble getting in/out of bed?

  • Do you need help with bathing, shaving, dressing, preparing meals?

  • How well do you focus or concentrate - and for how long?

  • Do you care for pets?

  • Can you shop by yourself?

  • How often do you shop?

  • How far can you walk without stopping to rest?

  • Are you able to balance your checkbook?

No wonder when you complete your disability application you will have about 40 to 50 pages of forms, questionnaires and reports.

You consistency about what you report in your applications, what's in your medical records, and what your family or friends observe about you.

Part of my job is to help my client prepare a very clear and complete "picture of life" now that they are disabled. Of course, we also get the medical records and doctor's reports--but there is so much more information! A strong Social Security disability case is built--just like a contractor builds a house. It's step by step, brick by brick and brush by brush.

If you need Social Security disability and it's important to you, get in touch with the Forsythe Firm.
