While the outcome of a Social Security isn't certain until the decision is written and signed, there are some really good indications that you may have won.

Signs of a good SSDI hearing include:

  • a short hearing

  • positive judge comments

  • Only a few questions for the vocational expert (VE)

  • the VE saying no jobs exist in answer to all hypothetical questions

  • the judge referencing the "grids" or Medical-Vocational Guidelines

  • the judge asking the lawyer to amend the alleged onset date (AOD)

  • or an immediate "bench decision" for approval (The judge says he/she will approve the case)

These indicators suggest the judge sees strong medical evidence and finds the claimant unable to work, leaning towards a favorable outcome-- though a decision isn't guaranteed until written and signed by the judge.
