SGA or "Substantial Gainful Activity" measures the amount of employment earnings you can have and still get disability benefits. In 2022 that amount was $1410. In 2023, it will increase to $1,470 (per month). Individuals who are blind have higher limits.

So, in 2023 an individual who works and earns at least $1,470 per month is considered gainfully employed and is ineligible for Social Security disability benefits. The basic premise is--you can't be employed and disabled at the same time.

Self employment income also counts toward SGA.

When considering part-time work while on Social Security disability be sure to look at the "trial work" rules, which may also impact your eligibility over time.
