If you want to get incorrect information about Social Security disability, just look online. I typed in a couple of common questions about Social Security disability benefits and both answers were wrong. Here are my 2 questions that the web got totally wrong:

QUESTION 1: How much money can you have in the bank and get Social Security disability?

WRONG ANSWER: You can have up to $2,000 as an individual or $3,000 as a couple.

RIGHT ANSWER: Social Security disability is not means tested; therefore, there is no limit to how much money you may have in the bank and still get SSDI benefits. The wrong answer above applies to Supplemental Security Income (SSI), which is NOT Social Security disability at all.

QUESTION 2: WHAT CAN YOU USE DISABILITY BACK PAY FOR?

WRONG ANSWER: You can use it for education, medical care or to pay for past due medical expenses.

RIGHT ANSWER: You can use it for absolutely anything you want because there are no restrictions on what SSDI back pay can be used for. Buy a new car if you want!

Don't get me wrong. There is a lot of good, useful and correct information on the web. However, don't rely too much on Social Security answers from the internet. Same goes for friends, relatives, your boss or co-workers, who all mean well, but may not be quite so up-to-snuff on Social Security regulations.
