Millions of individuals who receive SSI checks from Social Security will get 2 checks in September. Is that a bonus? No, it is not extra money.

Sometimes the way holidays fall on the calendar will trigger two payments in the same month. This happened for September and October in 2022. Millions of SSI beneficiaries noticed that they received 2 checks in September. One check is for September and one is for October. But there will be no SSI check in October. So, you must save that extra check for October!

Please note that this refers only to Supplemental Security Income, not to Social Security disability or SSDI. SSI is a needs-based program for individuals who are aged or disabled and who have very restricted income and financial resources.

For SSI recipients who received two checks in September, their next SSI check will come in November. If you have questions, contact your local Social Security office.
