Here is the legal path Social Security disability claims usually follow:

(1) Application, (2) Denial, (3) Reconsideration, (4) Denial,(5) Hearing = NEW DECISION

The initial decision should take 3 to 5 months (in the good old days). Now, getting an initial decision can take 12 months due to the backlog (blamed on COVID). Reconsideration will take approximately 6 to 12 more months. Then, there is a wait of up to 6 months to get a hearing. Then, another wait of up to 3 months to get the new decision. "Fast" is a word never ascribed to Social Security. Frankly, it is usually a slow and frustrating process. If you are facing the challenges of a disability claim with the US government (Social Security), we urge you to get expert professional help before you begin.

Never, ever go to court or a hearing without representation!
