WHAT A SOCIAL SECURITY APPEAL DOES

Many people lose their disability benefits because they don't appeal a denial, for one reason or another.

I want to discuss what a Social Security appeal actually does for you:

1. It kicks your claim up to a higher authority. Each time you appeal your claim moves up to a higher authority who can give you a new decision.

2. An appeal gets you before an Administrative Law Judge (ALJ) - the only time in the process where a high level adjudicator will personally speak to you and your attorney and give you a chance to explain your impairments. This is a much closer consideration of your case on a much more personal one-on-one level.

3. Puts you in the best position to win benefits. Of all the claims that are appealed to a judge, about 60 percent are approved. This is actually your BEST chance to be approved. Every decision prior to this is simply jockeying to get you before the judge.

4. Lets you add new evidence. During the appeal process, you can add new evidence to support your claim. So, you strengthen your case as you go.

5. You have a much better chance of getting back-pay or "past due benefits" approved during the appeal.

So, never fail to appeal a decision. It's the biggest mistake you could ever make in Social Security disability. Disability applications Fail, Fail, Fail. Appeals WIN, WIN, WIN.
