I am often asked, "What qualifies for Social Security disability in Alabama?"

The answer is, ANY long term medical or mental condition that is severe enough to prevent you from holding a full-time job.

Here are the basic requirements for Social Security Disability (SSDI)

  1. You are not currently working and earning wages of at least $1,550 per month.
  2. You have a severe condition which has lasted for at least 12 straight months OR is expected to last that long. (You don't have to be off work for 12 months already).
  3. You have worked in the past and paid into the Social Security system. The rule of thumb is that you have worked at least 5 years out of the last 10 years.

In addition you will need records from a treating doctor to support the disability claim.

It isn't easy to get on disability. The rules are complicated and proving that you meet all of their rules can be rather difficult.

My job at The Forsythe Firm is helping you get disability benefits started as soon as possible--and making sure you get the most benefits available to you, including Medicare insurance.
