WHY LAWYERS WIN DISABILITY CASES THAT YOU CAN'T

"Get a lawyer" isn't just an old adage. Lawyers win Social Security disability cases that you can't win. There are several reasons lawyers win when you have failed:
Lawyers know the law. You just can't fake your way around this stuff. Judges know the law and they WILL apply it to your disability case.
Lawyers know the technical rules. They understand grid rules, Social Security Listings (the Blue Book), Title II and Title XVI, date last insured, alleged onset and so much more.
Lawyers know how to gather evidence. They know which evidence is likely to convince a judge.
Lawyers can obtain effective direct testimony and cross examination testimony. This is a skill that has to be learned and practiced.
Lawyers know the judges. Every judge is different and some have a certain way that they want hearings to run. Knowing this can expedite your hearing and put you on good footing. Of course, your case must be proven.
If I had a #6, it would be: Lawyers know what to say and what not to say.
When I handled my first Social Security disability case decades ago, I was "as lost as a pig on a mail route." After doing a thousand or more cases, I now know what's happening during a hearing and am better prepared to respond effectively. There isn't a whole lot that takes me by surprise any more.
Social Security regulations protect you when you hire a lawyer or advocate. Your representative may not charge you any fee unless you win your case AND receive past due payments or "backpay."
You should not be hesitant to get help in dealing with the terribly complicated and frustrating matter of Social Security disability. It's too important to leave to chance.
