YOUR ODDS OF GETTING DISABILITY APPROVED

This post talks only about the statistical odds of being approved for Social Security disability.
About 2 million new claims for SSDI are filed each year in the United States. About 70 percent, or about 1.4 million, of those claims are denied. A very small percentage are later approved at the "Reconsideration" level. But most of the denied claims must go to the hearing level with an Administrative Law Judge (ALJ).
Nationally, about 47 percent of all cases at the Hearing Level are won by claimants.
Bear in mind, this percentage is for ALL claimants whether or not they were represented by a lawyer/advocate at the Hearing Level. Studies have shown that claimants who are represented by a lawyer/advocate at this level have a better statistical chance of receiving benefits.
In fact, research shows that only 34 percent of those who do not hire an attorney are ultimately approved for disability benefits, but 60 percent of those who do hire an attorney are ultimately approved.
This leaves over half of the claimants who asked for a hearing before an ALJ without benefits. And once you are denied by an Administrative Law Judge, the odds of ever getting disability benefits decreases dramatically. Simply said, the Hearing level is the absolute best chance of ever being approved.
